What part of the world are you from? Would you say that this has affected your art?

"I was born in Melbourne, Australia in the suburbs, in a working class family and environment. I would say that I was mostly influenced at a young age by Asterix and Obelix comics and a variety of animation. I wouldn’t say I had any strong cultural influences, although Australia is very much in the shadow of and influenced by American trends. It’s always hard to step outside of our own ideological and cultural framework and assess it truly! It was probably a fairly generic Western first world upbringing, and a lot of the work I produced was also somewhat generic as a result."

How did you get started as an artist?

"I just started drawing at a young age and never stopped. I created my own characters and storylines well before I intellectualized what I was doing or knew anything about story structure or genre. I made these epic storylines completely for myself and loved to see these characters go about their adventures, and change and grow along with me. I studied animation at university as a mature age student and went on to complete a Doctorate in Visual Art. These days I’m still practicing and staying in touch with upcoming artists through my teaching."
